Conversations was initiated by curators Marthe Carrier and Chloé Grondeau and spearheaded by Galerie B-312 in Montreal. It has since become an avenue of exchange between Lyon and Montreal, with a particular emphasis on showcasing the local art scene in each city. Conversations presents a plurality of events and media in order to give artists at different stages of their career a chance to show their work internationally. This transatlantic collaboration has had two iterations.
In the spring of 2018, Marthe Carrier and Chloé Grondeau developed a curatorial proposal presenting the work of eight artists based in Montreal. Five diffusion spaces hosted individual and group exhibitions to highlight the work of artists residing across the Atlantic: Bikini, La BF15, Galerie Tator, Factatory and Néon, with the complicity of Moly Sabata, an artist residency centre. In January 2019, these diffusers present the work of five artists from Lyon in Montreal at following centres: La Vitrine, ateliers Daigneault | Schofield, Diagonale, Arprim, centre d'essai en arts imprimé and Galerie B-312.
Conversations. Montréal | Lyon was made possible by the generous support of: Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Conseil des arts de Montréal, ministère des Relations internationales et Francophonie du Québec / Fonds Émérillon de coopération franco-québécoise and Institut français / Ville de Lyon.
