Galerie B-312 is pleased to welcome in its small room L'Angle mort, an installation by Frédéric Lavoie. A box measuring approximately one and a half metres by one metre, illuminated from the inside, radiates a few centimetres from the wall. A video is projected on the only opaque side of this strange object. Lonely people, sitting behind a wooden table, are filmed waiting. And Frédéric Lavoie captures this waiting. The slightest noise created by the smallest of their gestures is recorded by microphones placed on them, on the table, on the chair, in the room, everywhere. These noises, collected and worked on with the complicity of Éric Desmarais, can be heard in all four corners of the room, and become more and more important in the face of the sobriety of the image. From then on, the visible gives way to the audible, which begins to draw another space, first of all the room, then the image... The title of the exhibition already reveals a little of the consistency of this other space. For, in the light of the experience of the installation, the notion of the blind spot does not fail to send us back to that ordeal we all go through when, talking to our interlocutor, we wonder what he hears of what we are saying to him. A blind spot of meaning, therefore, of the one that the other edifies by listening to what we say to him, and to which we have no access. Frédéric Lavoie has set himself the task of recording the traces of this space, which has nothing spatial or temporal about it. And he succeeds all the more since the work turns out to be a breathtaking diptych composed of the physical space of the installation and this other space whose presence rivals the tactile and visible dimensions of the work.
