Composer, violonist and improviser, Malcolm Goldstein is active in the field of contemporary music and dance since the early 1960s. His main focus was on free improvisation (with Soundings he was acclaimed for having "reinvented" the way of playing the violin) as well as more structured and composed improvisation. Several composers, such as John Cage and Ornette Coleman, wrote pieces for him. A contemporary jazz musician, Rainer Wiens has, over the last fifteen years, developed one of the most original styles on the guitar. He has composed a lot of music for dance, theatre, television and film - The two Montreal musicians will meet once again to perform their new pieces, some compositions and free improvisations. We will hear hardscrabble songs and other resonances from this period. A music of here and now, a presence to be discovered in a sound process.
