Jim Verburg is a Dutch/Canadian artist currently based between Toronto and Montreal. With a practice stemming from photography, the artist creates experimental works of increasingly various forms as he seeks to uncover the subtleties of human relationships and issues of intimacy and sexuality. His films have been presented in festivals around the world, including Reel 2 Real International Film Festival (Vancouver, 2009), Mixed Up (Philly, 2009), MIX 21 NYC (2008) and Queersicht Film Festival (Bern, Switzerland, 2008). His works has been shown at Galerie Sans Nom (Moncton, 2010), Gallery 44 (Toronto, 2009) and Theodoridis Contemporary Gallery (Zurich, 2009).

Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal present, in collaboration with Galerie B-312, the exhibition One and Two by Jim Verburg.
The 12th edition of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is resonating with the theme proposed by guest curator Anne-Marie Ninacs: Lucidity. Inward Views. Between September 8 and October 9, there will be 25 solo exhibitions by local and international artists spread across the city, turning the metropolis into a vast photography exhibition.
Jim Verburg is interested in the subtleties of human relations, especially the questions of intimacy and sexuality, and on what is often left unsaid in these relations. The videos For a Relationship (2007) and Family Album Number One (2009) unveil the shadowy aspects of his relationship with his parents and become the models for a space of liberation between two people. In the more recent works in the exhibition One and Two, circles (found in nature, produced by the lens, traced, imprinted, superimposed, animated) stand in for human subjects and compose a theory of groupings relativized by unstable positioning, movement, framing, focusing, and perspective.
