JEAN RENÉ, MALCOLM GOLDSTEIN
Duo à cordes, Les menteries de Friedrich
CONCERTS at GALERIE B-312
Galerie B-312 is pleased to welcome violist Jean René and violinist Malcolm Goldstein in concert. The two musicians propose to improvise with the famous Nietzschean opposition Apollo / Dionysus in mind. The event will take place in four parts: a solo and then a duo illustrating Apollonian order and balance, followed by a solo and then a duo illustrating this time the chaos and unpredictability of Dionysius. With the help of playing cards, the musicians will randomly determine which role they will play, Apollo or Dionysus, and the sequence of sections, solo or duet. Jean René proposed this musical game to Malcolm Goldstein, seeing in him a privileged companion, a unique improviser and libertarian composer who, like an alchemist, knows how to extract rich and abundant material from his instrument. Together, with an openness to the other's playing, they will combine their respective masters of improvised music to explore the limits of this antagonism between order and hustle and bustle, the central theme of Friedrich Nietzsche's La Naissance de la tragédie.
