Aymen Mbarki is a self-taught visual artist based in Tunisia. He held his first exhibition in 2019 at the National Library of Tunisia. Since then, his work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in Tunisia and abroad, as well as at international art fairs. Notably, he participated in the Cape Town Art Fair in 2022 and 2023 and at Liste Art Fair Basel in 2024. In 2023, Mbarki completed a three-month residency at L’atelier Selma Feriani, focused on drawing as installation, which included an open studio, curatorial, and mentorship program. His work has also been exhibited at various institutions, galleries, and art spaces in Tunisia, Italy, and South Africa.
Galerie B-312 is very pleased to continue the Résidences croisées Montréal + Tunis for a third edition, welcoming artist Aymen Mbarki this year. He will be staying in Montréal in November 2026, where he will have the opportunity to discover the local arts scene and connect with the artistic community.
Aymen Mbarki’s practice explores the relationships between language, mythology, poetry, and gesture. His compositions, characterized by great graphic simplicity, oscillate between figuration, abstraction, and theatrical forms. The black line, a recurring element in his work, becomes a tool for bringing forth scenes and creatures that straddle the boundary between reality and fiction.
Drawing inspiration from literature, Greek mythology, and tragedy, He develops a visual language where material, movement, and experimentation converge. His approach invites an experience that is at once intimate, contemplative, and open to interpretation.
