A video programming composed of Finnish works from the artist-run centre AV-ARKKI. In presence of the curator Stéphanie Morissette.
During an artist residency in Finland in the fall of 2004, I visited AV-ARKKI, a distribution centre for Finnish media works, founded in 1989. AV-ARKKI has about 100 members and is the only organization of its kind in Scandinavia. His office is located in the former Nokia Cable Factory in Helsinki, which houses artists' studios, art galleries, theatre and dance companies and art schools.
AV-ARKKI is in a way the twin of Vidéographe in this country. These two structures have a similar goal and background and it became clear to me that an exchange between the two organizations would be beneficial to their audiences and artists."FOCUS FINLAND's programme includes seven works that testify to the diversity of video practices explored in this country. The programme will also provide an opportunity to learn about the development of video art in Finland since its origins in 1982.
