Alexis Gros-Louis is a multidisciplinary artist from Wendake, Quebec. He currently lives and works in Montreal. In 2020, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from NSCAD University. Galerie B-312 is pleased to conclude its season with "978-0816630288," the latest exhibition by Alexis Gros-Louis. The Wendat artist explores the paradox of contemporary Indigenous life and culture. Drawing on postcolonial theories, critical epistemology, and new archaeological research, he seeks to challenge the erasure and replacement of memory and heritage of First Nations by questioning the infrastructures and authority of political, social, and cultural institutions. The artist also reflects on the role that new technologies can play in this quest. A strong tension exists in the desire to realize regenerative actions, to revive traditional ways of life without denying the contemporary context of an increasingly digital and dematerialized world.
